Week 9

Ok, so I am trying to play professional basketball immediately after I graduate, so for now it will be my goal to showcase myself as a basketball player to agents, and teams (my employers). Below are two liks to videos I have made to get my name out to teams and agents:

I hope these will suffice for the purposes of this weeks blog.

  1. Mr. Walters, I read your week 7 and week 9 responses and found them very interesting. Your videos on youtube are impressive. I enjoyed watching the 2nd video where you hit 3 point plays. You have the size and weight to do some damage on the court. Why are you not playing basketball for ASU? As for you internship with kids and coaching I think it is great that you find pleasure in helping our youth. Yes, it is frustrating when kids are disrespectful but it is your job to teach them the right way to act and I know you are fulfilling that at your internship. Keep up the good work and keep those kids in shape!

  2. Kellen:
I am so impressed. I decided to respond to your blog and your week 7 and week 9 response because I have never really followed sports and I felt that learning from you would help me in developing my knowledge. I would have to ask why it is you are not playing professional basketball right now? Just yesterday I had a young girl who got full scholarships to our college for basketball come in and want to enroll in the Fire Academy. I had to tell her that her games and practices were not going to work in tandem with our program. I then realized how people who play sports and live for that dream and goal in life have to make sacrifices in their career paths to play the sport. I never thought of it that way. They recenly started a pro tea up here and it fell through which I found sad because they had recruited people from all over the United States. Your youtube videos were incredible and I admire your creativity in producing them for your pursuits. Working with kids is hard because they don't always have the interest or direction they need or we would like them to have. They are great though and our future. I would have to say thank you for making a mark on the young lives that you do. I admire you for that talent and ability.

  4. Kellen,
When I was looking for ideas on how to comply with Week 9’s assignment, yours was one of the blogs I looked at first. I am impressed by your goal to play professional basketball right after graduation. The thought struck me that you are coming into this job market at a time that permits you to market yourself in ways not available to players in the past. YOU can be your own agent. YOU can get public exposure through your videos which YOU can produce yourself. How cool is that?! Then, I started thinking about how video is so tailored to your type of search, and which other career markets could benefit from the same type of promotion. Not all skills translate well to video, but I think I will try putting something similar together. Unlike a talking resume, where the person talks about their self as a potential employee, a video can actually show the person doing what it is they say they can do. Thank you for giving me this idea and providing this opportunity to see you in action. Good luck with your career!

  5. Kellen-
I enjoyed your videos on you tube. I think you did a really good job of putting them together. It seems like you have a very wide array of interests which I think is great. It seems like you would be good at being a motivationa speaker since you have coaching experience! Also I wanted to mention that my non-profit (Future for Kids) does a sports camp every summer at ASU. My non-profit is run by an ex-NFL player so him and his buddies help coach the camp. It might be something you would enjoy doing and I know they always welcome voulnteers! Just a suggestion. Good luck!

  6. Kellen--

What an awesome way to showcase yourself! I don't follow any sports. When people talk about games and teams that they follow, I couldn't even tell you if it was football, basketball, or baseball--that's how lost I am. But your videos were so exciting to see! Your creativity was very refreshing. Your talented, and you should have no problem finding someone to be interested in you. Nice work, it was very nice watch the videos.

    Thanks,
    Allison
